Hello World! Welcome Friends! Today I have a great article about keeping your home safe.
The following is a guest blog post from http://www.abclocksmith.org/
Burglars will hit one out of 10 homes this year. Intruders are looking for a way into your home, and now is the time to take steps to keep them out with better home security.
Here are some home safety hacks and tips for keeping a home invasion from happening to you.
Check Your Home Security Measures
You should start by performing a safety check around your home, looking for weak points and areas that burglars could use to enter your property. Pay attention to the following areas:
Check Your Home Locks
Make sure every one of your home’s exterior doors has high-quality deadbolts. If you’ve just moved in, change or re-key all of the locks. It’s tempting to hide a key somewhere outside for unexpected guests or forgetful kids, but don’t do it. Instead, give a key to a neighbor.
Your lock might be weakest at the door jamb. Reinforce your locks by installing heavy duty strike plates with extra-long screws.
Check Your Doors at Home
Patio door locks can be easy to pick. Put a broomstick in the track of your sliding glass doors so a burglar can’t open them, even if the lock fails. Make sure all other doors are metal or solid wood.
At your front door, install a peephole at a height everyone in your family can access. Make sure you know who’s there before you open the door.
Secure Your House Windows
Planting prickly shrubs beneath your windows is one of your best options. Here are some others:
- Install pin locks in double-hung window frames.
- Add bars outside. Transparent and decorative options add protection and still look stylish.
- Install wireless window alarms that will notify you if a thief tries to get in.
Go High Tech for Home Security
Video camera-equipped doorbells can add another layer of security to your home. They connect to your home Wi-Fi network and let you see your front porch from your smartphone. Many of them integrate with other smart features in your home.
Video cameras can be useful in the following ways:
- Avoiding solicitors
- Watching for packages
- Speaking to visitors when you can’t answer
- Identifying a burglar in the event of a robbery
- Keeping an eye on other suspicious people outside of your home
Drone Monitoring In Beta Testing
One startup company is currently beta testing a system that will have a drone monitor your home and investigate possible threats. The Sunflower Home Awareness System detects motion, vibration and sound. It uses artificial intelligence to determine who should be near your home and who might be a possible intruder.
If the system senses a threat, Sunflower Labs will contact your cellphone to see if it should send someone to investigate. Be on the lookout for home-monitoring drones like this on the market in the near future if you’d like to raise your home security to that level.
