Hello World! Sorry for not getting Before & After Wednesday live yesterday. The big move in is Saturday and I’ve been a busy bee painting away in the Master Bedroom. It’s taking a suuuuuper long time. I’ll show you why. Are you ready to see the rest of the house?
Hello lovely. Here are the stats on the upstairs. 5 bedrooms and 2 baths. The Master Bedroom is upstairs and there really isn’t a game room that is open. We will use one of the 5 bedrooms as Little Dedicated’s playroom.
The master bedroom has some tough green paint to cover up as well as a painted ceiling. This room hasn’t been painted since the early ’90’s and it soaked up the first coat of primer like it was water. No plantation shutters upstairs, but there are 2 inch blinds in all of the rooms. Also, no wood flooring upstairs.
View looking back to hall door and door leading to master bathroom. The other main reason why it is taking so long to paint is that there is this beautiful texture on the wall. It’s raised just enough to really make painting a chore. But, it is a beautiful texture. It will give such depth to the walls. So far I’ve gotten the ceiling covered up with with primer and the walls have needed at least two coats of primer.
The master bathroom is a lot smaller than the one at our previous house. This is the only bathroom that has not been updated. So, that is on our list of things to do. The door you see goes to one of the walk-in closets. We are also losing a lot of closet space in the master bathroom. No worries on that, we will take care of that when we renovate.
As you can see, there is another ceiling to paint. Original tub and shower. However, they did put down new flooring. The door leads to the other closet. The plan is to knock out the shower and extend the closet to the wall and then take the tub out and put in a super shower.
A guest bedroom with another painted ceiling and tan trim. I’m going to be painting a lot in this house. This room also has 2 walk-in closets. One of the closets backs up to the master bedroom. We want to eventually steal that closet by sealing it up in the guest bedroom and cutting out a door in the master bedroom.
They renovated this bathroom just recently. The only thing I want to change is the color on the cabinets. It’s a little too dark brown for me. Also, one day I might just change out the granite. Maybe. I really like bright and light bathrooms. So, we’ll see. There is also a linen closet in the bathroom which you can see the door in the reflection in the mirror in this shot.
Another ceiling to paint! This room will have it’s ceiling and walls primed and painted and the trim painted. This will be used as Mr. Dedicated’s office.
Yeah, no ceiling to paint in here. Just walls and trim. This room has a chair rail; so I thought Little Dedicated will make this her room. She’s already picked out her paint colors. She wants pink and white stripes above the rail. She chose Rose Garden and White Opulence which are both Benjamin Moore paints.
This room will be the playroom. Another ceiling to paint and maroon and gold walls. Holy Cow! That’s 5 ceilings total that I need to get painted. I’ve already gone to through two cans of Kilz in the master bedroom alone. Looks like I should just stock up. Lol.
The breezeway leading out to the garage with a lovely brick wall with iron top and gate.
There she is, our new pool. Whenever I take painting breaks, I sit on the edge and dangle my feet in the cool water.
Lovely little water fall. We do have a bit of trimming back to do in both the front and the backyard.
Here is the outside half bathroom. The toilet is directly across from the sink with storage above for towels.
There she is in all of her glory that will get a ton of primer and paint. My goal is to have the master bedroom completed by Saturday. That includes 2-3 coats of primer on walls and ceiling, ceiling paint, wall paint, and trim paint.
After we move in, here is the order of the paint jobs:
1. Master bathroom closets. They haven’t had a fresh coat of paint since 1987 and the walls look dirty. Mr. Dedicated has already pulled off all of the shelves and taken down the hooks. We figured we could live out of suit cases for a few more days while I get it painted.
2. The pantry. I want to give it a nice coat of paint on the walls and shelves before we start stocking it up too much.
3. The laundry room. This will include walls, trim, and built in cabinets.
4. Little Dedicated’s room.
5. Master bathroom.
6. The playroom.
7. Mr. Dedicated’s office.
8. The guest bedroom.
9. The upstairs hallway.
After all of those are completed, I will paint the downstairs. I really feel the need to get all of those ceilings painted, because I know it’s going to take a lot of time and it’s tiring on the shoulders.
So, off I go! I will try my hardest to get Anything Blue Friday up for you tomorrow. Thank you for popping in to check out the upstairs and the backyard.

It's gorgeous, Kathryn! You've definitely got a great plan for adding more closet space where you need it. I love the pool area too. We recently painted almost the entire inside of our house and I was so afraid we'd have to primer first because our walls were a dark brown color and the new color we picked out was a very light beige. But, as it turns out, we used Sherwin Williams Duration Paint and it covered the dark brown walls in one coat without priming first! I could not believe it! If you haven't purchased all your paint yet, you might want to give the duration a try. It worked miracles for us. 🙂 I did a post about it on my blog called "The Big Kilim Beige Paint Reveal." Good luck with all your painting and moving! 🙂

Great house…but, all those ceilings! I feel your pain. We had a house where the entire downstairs was painted army green. I think we ended up with 4 coats of Kilz before it was covered!
We close on our new/old house tomorrow, and soon we start driving across the country to get to it! This will be our retirement home – much smaller than yours!
Good luck and take time to rest those shoulders!

Smart lady getting closets and pantries painted first! Once you start unpacking, if they aren't painted now, they'll never get painted! Lovely home, by the way! Looking forward to seeing your magic sprinkled all around.
